About

Faris Shomali is a researcher and archivist. His work explores visual arts in and of Palestine. He has previously worked as a digitization manager at the Palestinian Museum Digital Archive project and as an assistant researcher at the Muwatin Institute for Democracy and Human Rights at Birzeit University. He is also a failed musician. He cofounded Bil3aX band which released its only album “12 Richter” in 2014.
Currently, Shomali is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Toronto. His doctoral research investigates the social life of Palestine’s art. Exploring the biographies of artworks, his research offers an examination of art and politics that moves beyond art’s political connotations toward an examination of the politics of circulation.
